Google offers: new stream in daily-deal market flow

Monday, January 24, 2011

Not long after Groupon turned down the buyout offer, Google has announced it's own group-buying service. A rejection is not a reason to give up, right?

By Mashable: "Google Offers looks and operates much like Groupon or LivingSocial. Users receive an e-mail with a local deal of the day. They then have the opportunity to buy that deal within a specific time limit (we assume 24 hours). Once enough people have made the purchase, the Google Offer is triggered and users get that all-too-familiar $10 for $20 deal for that Indian restaurant they’ve never tried.

Is there any competition between daily deal sites?

As someone pointed out:
A deal's a deal, the people who buy groupons don't have a "groupon" budget where they have only x dollars to spend on discounted services a day. They are looking for deals that works for them, and are all impulse buyers.

Groupon, Google Offers, various clones are not so much competing with each other, the buyers will buy whatever deal(s) they like the most. If groupon is offering a deal on Indian food, and google offers is offering a deal on foot massages, and the buyer loves Indian food and foot massages he will buy both.

As long as these sites can keep offering compelling deals, they all will thrive as people love bargain hunting.
