It was recently announced by Facebook that some of the widely used widgets are considered to be deprecated and will no longer be supported starting from June, 23rd 2015.
These widgets are:
- Like box – Like button designed for Facebook pages, allows admins to promote their pages and embed a simple feed of content from a page into other sites;
- Activity feed – displays recent activity taking place on your site using actions (such as likes);
- Recommendations feed – displays the most recommended content on your site using actions (such as likes);
- Facepile – displays the Facebook profile photos of people who have connected with your Facebook page or app.
All these 4 social plugins are now deprecated and will not be supported after June, 23rd 2015.
What should you do if you use any of these plugins?
First of all you would need to remove the code for the deprecated widget from your website (HTML code). Next you may want to look at other Facebook plugins that can be used on your site and choose the one that you prefer. Here you can find the list of all plugins which Facebook currently supports.
For example, Facebook recommends to use new Page Plugin instead of Like box. For more details on this plugin – please refer to Facebook docs.
